Leah's too tired, but I got a Busch beer and am ready to ROCK!

Copied from Christie (Life @ the Condo), who Copied from Heather Armstrong's Dooce, who copied it from somewhere in Facebook land.

What are your middle names?
James and Ruth. Mine is James, in case you're confused.

How long have you been together?
Married for over four years, dated for one, friends for two?

How long did you know each other before you started dating?
Two years. She was dating a guy, I was dating a girl, she broke up with guy, I broke up with girl, nuf said.

Who asked whom out?
She asked me to a wedding of one of her friends. We made a weekend out of it, and went camping with Corey and Hattie (two awesome kids from Chi-town). Leah was scared I would put the moves on her in the tent...............come on! You all know I am a gentleman!

How old are each of you?
I'm 31 going on 32. She is the age of my brother..........28.

Whose siblings do you see the most?
Neither, they are in Illinois. If you put a stopwatch on it, probably hers.

Which situation is the hardest on you as a couple?
Money. Isn't it like that for everyone?

Did you go to the same school?
Nope, never, nada. Unless you count the "School of Hard Knocks".

Are you from the same home town?
Same state yes. Same town no. I did coach a freshman basketball game at her high school gym, and watched my brother run a cross country match there!

Who is smarter?
This question could get me in trouble.........In matters of all hard sciences/outdoor survival skills/obscure indie rock (me), literature/history/grammar/math/art/movies and entertainment (her)

Who is the most sensitive?
Her.............totally her.

Where do you eat out most as a couple?
Subway? Does that count? We don't have enough money to eat out!

Where is the furthest you two have traveled together as a couple?
Portland, OR.

Who has the craziest exes?
I agree with Christie's answer......Neither of us.

Who has the worst temper?
Me. I never show it, but I am half German and half Polish. We have fire in the belly!

Who does the cooking?
Me. But she is a better baker.

Who is the neat-freak?
We are both equally messy. We are both "pile-ers" and don't like loading or un-loading the dishwasher.

Who is more stubborn?
I don't know. We are both too willing to compromise.

Who hogs the bed?
Rocco. He sleeps between us, and will bite our feet if we move. It will wake Leah up, but I sleep through being mauled by an animal.

Who wakes up earlier?
Me. Always. The only day Darren (Leah) can count on waking up before me is the day I die. And then, he (she) should probably let me sleep in. (I couldn't say it any better than Christie)

Where was your first date?
At a wedding in Indiana.

Who is more jealous?
Her.

How long did it take to get serious?
It took me like a month to work up the courage to kiss her. Is kissing serious?

Who eats more?
That is me by a long shot! Leah eats like a small squirrel.

Who does the laundry?
Whomever gets fed up with the huge laundry pile first.

Who's better with the computer?
Hands down.............without a doubt...........her.

Who drives when you are together?
Me. I would fall asleep if I was in the passenger seat.

Feel free to answer some or all of the same questions about your significant other in the comments, or leave a link to your website if you prefer answering there.

Too Tired

I'm sorry but I can't post. I started my new job and I'm exhausted. Once I get used to this new 9 hrs/day schedule, I'll find some pep and pick up where I left off...!

Look Who I Woke Up To...

That's right, folks. And I'm not in Illinois. Logan's gone west coast! Let me tell you all about this wonderful surprise...

Yesterday morning, Dan left for fishing while I settled on the couch to watch my Tudors marathon; I'm addicted. Dan phoned around 1:30, about two hours earlier than I usually expect him back. He said he didn't catch anything and asked if I wanted him to bring me a mocha. That's it. Nothing really out of the ordinary. I was excited he was home early and thrilled to have a mocha on the way. I kept watching my show.

About a half hour later, my cell beeped and I paused my show to go grab it and see who texted. It was from Rachel, and when I opened the file it was a video. I pushed play and watched Logan sitting on the back of a blue Prius. Did they get a Prius?! Then, Rachel's voice: Hi Aunt Leah...Come downstairs and see me! I shrieked and leapt from the couch with Rocco flying from my lap, then jumped over Hobbes, threw my boots on, whipped the door open, and burst into tears when I saw Rach, Tom, and Logan standing outside with Dan.

They'll be here for a week, so you can expect to see a lot of photos! ;-) Happy Monday!

Project: All My Relations

[Circa 1942. My father is the youngest, seated in my grandpa's lap!]

I've spent many a day unemployed gathering genealogy, photos, and family history to start my new blog, All My Relations. I have built it on Typepad in order to take full advantage of the photo albums, and so far I'm happy with the results. My goal is for the blog to be a source of sharing and research into my lineage...Hodel (my father's surname), Hendricks (my mother's maiden name), and eventually Dan's family names: Herzing (his father's surname) and Karpiak (his mother's maiden name.) I also set up an account with Ancestry.com for further research.
You're more than welcome to visit the blog, however I'm not sure how interesting it will be to friends or followers of this blog?! At least check out a few of the old photos! Maybe it will spur your own interest in your lineage.
