we took special note of what song was playing each time we entered a new state (you can listen here). this was extremely exciting...we were at the mercy of the radio...what would it be?!
washington: "wake up" arcade fire
idaho: "rhinestone eyes" gorillaz
montana: "resurrection fern" iron & wine
wyoming: "burning down the house" talking heads
colorado: "strange" built to spill
utah: "tangled up in blue" bob dylan
idaho (again): "we've got everything" modest mouse
oregon: "an assassin" sea and cake
when we began our trip we had some old cds and a tempermental nano.
so we relied most heavily upon satellite radio. it gave us news, commentary, comedians, three alternative/indie channels, two classic rock, and two adult alternative. whatever that means.
the songs we heard the most were "guaranteed" by eddie vedder, "excuses" by the morning benders, "congratulations" by mgmt, "thieves" by she and him, and "laredo" by band of horses, as wells as a WHOLE LOT of broken bells (yea), gorillaz, lcd soundsystem (eckh!), and radiohead. we also got bits of sleigh bells, besnard lakes, ray lamontagne, local natives, mumford & sons, indigo girls, dirty projectors, vampire weekend, ryan adams, and the decemberists.
overall, this was a good music road trip. especially because we were flying by the seat of our pants.
