the quest to increase a wardrobe:

in what must have been a fit of frustration, i tossed a whole lotta clothing last year. by the time dan and i moved into the guest room, i had narrowed a walk-in closet's worth of clothing to a single closet, and the bulk of the clothing was dan's. now that we are back in the walk-in, even dan has noticed how little clothing i have. so when i suggested i find some new things, he was in agreement. in fact, he even went with me to shop.

#1 on the list? shirts. i had wittled my wardrobe down to several plain t-shirts, one tank top, and one blouse. #2? jeans that fit. i had 1 pair that i was comfortable in and three that were either too tight, too big, or too long. and another pair that fit but went out of style three years ago. #3 would be anything else that caught my eye and was practical.

off we went on my usual hunting route that takes me across three towns to multiple shopping malls or plazas. i'd done this a million times, even recently, and i had little hope that i would accomplish my mission. let's be honest, ladies. it can be really difficult to find clothing that 1.) you like 2.) fits your body and 3.) you can afford. for example:

target:do they have pants for short people? no. will most of the clothing hold up well over time? no. the style? hit or miss. but the price is always affordable.

anthropologie: i can't drop $68 on a blouse! are you kidding me? every once in a while i can find a sale price in my range, but only for tops or socks. i can only get pants if i plan on having them hemmed, which brings the total price back up to 'too much.' **dan proved his worth as a lucky charm and we scored one cute little pink top with an embroidered v neckline.**

urban outfitters: i used to browse these sale racks for tops and socks, too. however i'm getting too old for their styles...i'm really not interested in deconstructed 80s fashion, which seems to be the rage. and i have a hard time squeezing into their weird sizes.

old navy: cheap and equally cheap quality. but i can get by on this, and it's the only place i can get short person pants, IF i'm lucky and they are in stock. **again, dan the good luck charm snagged me two pairs of jeans.**

gap: overrated. spendy for such simple and repetitive styles. they have short person jeans, but i might as well get them at old navy. (despite the short jeans, they never have 'short' available in any other pant style. wtf?) and why are the tops so looooooooooong? not everyone is tall enough! i'm short, not fat, but short with a short torso. a t-shirt or blouse that comes down to the middle of my thighs doesn't make me look lean and sexy. it makes me look like there is an awkward and unnecessary space between my knees and neck.

after dan braved a few of these stores with me, he sat down to take a break and i wandered into levi's and started poking around. i'd never been in there before because i thought they only sold jeans and i figured they were expensive. to my surprise, they had tons of cute tops and they were all 50% off! **i am officially taking dan with me everytime i shop!** i don't have photos because the same stock isn't on the web site, but i got four great tops. ;)

the next weekend, i drove out to a location dan was working at and stopped by a mall nearby. it had the same stores as usual, but i noticed a 50% sign in the window of ann taylor loft, and decided to check it out. have you ever shopped there? holy heck! it's very similar in style and quality to j. crew, AND they have petite sizes, which means i can actually buy stylish jeans and pants that will stop when they hit the floor!

i was on the hunt for belly-friendly shorts and wound up with a giant bag of clothing. everything on sale was also another 50% off and regular priced items were 40% off. i got very, VERY GREEDY. another shopper informed me that they do this sort of thing all the time...they practically give their clothes away for free! i can not recommend this place enough.

here are some of my picks:

Bubble Tank Denim Cargo Short  Cardigan
Dress Jacket Black short Silk Dress

of course, they all look MUCH better on me than on these models. ;)
