Progress on the Nursery

I wasn't going to share photos of the nursery until we were completely done (I believe it is called "the big nursery reveal" in our modern blogging world) but that could be a while, so oh well. There is nothing wrong with showing our slow progress. And Dan has been hard at work so I want to share what he has accomplished! ;-)

The walls are finally painted (gray) and the pictures are hung above the crib (thanks Gayle!) We fell in love with the framed animal photographs by Sharon Montrose, but to save some money, we made our own instead. We used pages out of our coffee table book, Creature by Andrew Zuckerman, and inexpensive frames from IKEA. It was fun picking and choosing the photos together. There are some definite Dan favorites in the mix that I wouldn't have picked but I'm positive make them more fun. :)

I am earning gift cards to Babies R Us by being in a medical research study, so with my first gift card I bought a basket for Blasty's (already large) stuffed animal collection. I was going to get another basket for his/her books, but Dan was surprisingly opinionated and thought that putting books in a basket was weird. LOL. So, I am considering a.) using the extra dresser space or buying a shelf to stack them upright with bookends (we have two little guys picked out here) or b.) making a cool little book sling like this one. We'll see if I have the energy for the latter!

Other new additions are the curtains, rug, and dresser, all from IKEA. Dan just finished building the dresser and we will use it for a changing station, and boy, am I glad we decided to get it! We were just going to get a changing stand, but this way I have all those drawers for storage.

Still to do: Bedding. I was planning on making it, with Melissa's help, but I'm stalling. I like what we picked out but I have had a "dream" bedding set in the back of my mind all along ... I will share a photo of it, but please don't research it because you will find it is really expensive. LOL. It is a designer label AND organic, so you know, pricey. Why do I have such expensive taste?! Anyway, I am still up in the air about whether or not it is gender neutral, too. Dan thinks it could go either way but I have only seen it in the context of a girl's room. So, we'll see. I can get it on Ebay for half the retail price....

It's perfectly beautiful! Your little one is going to have many a good night's sleep in that room, for sure.

I just want you to know that you're "unfinished" nursery is about 100% more "finished" than my 16 month old's bedroom. I have not painted, cleaned the room out, hung ANYTHING, set up books, etc. He has never slept one second in that room.....can't imagine why! ;)

I think the room is beautiful! I agree that you will like the dresser-as-changing-table much better than the alternative. I did this with Dash and bought an inexpensive, but still cushy, countoured changing pad from Babies R Us and covered it with a really soft fitted sheet thingy that was at the same store.

Yay to you and Gayle for hanging the pictures, they look perfect! Oh and P.S. I have a basket full of Dash's books in front of me right now, so take that Dan! :) But really though, it's on the floor and easily accessible for him to pick through and find the ones he wants.
