Look Who Is Turning 1 on Saturday....This Guy!

I don't know. Where did the time go?
The first three months were some of the hardest moments of my life.
And the last nine months have been a beautiful and chaotic joy. They have gone quickly.
I suppose that's the way it goes with these little people.
Before I know it, he will be starting school.
And then applying for a job.
And then replacing Tom Cruise as the most hunky man on the planet.
No? Not Tom Cruise?
Oh, George Clooney.
Yes, he will replace George Clooney.

Oh my, how he has my heart.
(Raine, not George Clooney.)
I love him like no one else.
You don't know how to love anyone the way you love your children.
He is quick, smart, amiable, strong.
He is already so much of Dan and I's greatest parts.
Saturday we will celebrate his first year with friends.
There will be cake and champagne.
Presents.
Warm summer air.
I am not naive.
I know some babies don't get to celebrate their 1st.
I am grateful.

He is crawling.
Waving.
Pushing two new teeth.
Cruising.
Asking for "more" with his hands.
Hugging.
Sleeping on his own.
Flashing dimples that can make you smile even if you are crabby McCrabberson.

Did I mention I am grateful?

My days have been marked by a dark sadness lately.
It is not how I expected to feel his birthday week.
But life brings things without your knowing.
Without your choosing.
It challenges you and reminds you why
celebrating the good and beautiful is healing.
And Oh, how I hope to Raise this boy Right.
I want to raise him good like his daddy.
A good soul. Raised well.
This world needs them.

Raine could not have been placed in better hands than those of yourself and Dan... Enjoy every word, every motion, every face, every noise. I've found these things to bring me great joy and peace. I've stopped worrying of tomorrows, as tomorrows never come; Today is the day to be greatful and to enjoy the time we have, with those we love-
