BESTY!

Back in the beginning of January, we were super lucky to have Sarah visit for a weekend! We hadn't seen her since we road tripped to Denver two years ago (!) on our super duper first real vacation ever. I don't know how she managed to get away (this girl is mad crazy busy!) but I am so forever-ever grateful that she penciled us in and got on that plane! :) I mean, is there anything better than picking up one of your best friends at the airport?!?

There was one little guy in particular she was eager to meet...and Oh. My. Goodness. Did they love each other, or what? After I got her at the airport, we picked up Raine at Tina's. As soon as we walked through the door, Sarah had him in her arms and only agreed to let him go so that we could strap him in his car seat and go home. The rest of the weekend ...he was all hers! And he LOVED it. So we started calling her Besty. Because Raine totally thought she was his Besty. She held him, played with him, changed his diapers, carried him on walks...It also felt like we had a nanny! Only it was way better than that because it was Sarah. Sarah, who has been one of my closest friends since we met when I was seven and she was nine. So we were able to talk, talk, talk, and talk some more, picking up right where we had left off when we did that in Denver two years ago. And this was the first time that she has visited us in Oregon and WOW, I loved showing her my little life I have going for me here. ;)

Saturday, while Dan went fishing, we tucked Raine into his stroller and went grocery shopping. It might not sound exciting to you, but we had so much fun. I was thrilled to discover that she got as much pleasure out of going to New Seasons (our local grocery store) as Dan and I do. We went down every aisle, ooohed and aaahed at stuff, tasted anything we could, and picked up some extra beer, wine, cheese, nuts, baguettes, and fresh pesto to indulge in that evening! I also took her to two of my fave stores in the plaza, Piccolo Mondo Toys and Posh Baby, to ooooh and aaaah at stuff for our kiddos. ;) On Sunday, we ventured out into the sunshine and took her downtown. We got coffee at Stumptown, wandered through Powell's Books, ate lunch and did some beer tasting at Deschutes Brewery, and picked up cupcakes from Cupcake Jones! Raine happily sat in the Ergo on Sarah, and on her lap at the restaurant. She gladly thanked strangers who complimented her on her cute baby and laughed with sneaky glee when a woman said Raine had her dimples! LOL. Our evenings were spent at home, playing with and cuddling Raine. She coached him on his scooching (he was so close to doing it!) danced with him to Girl Talk, sang him Twinkle Twinkle Little Star, and held him tight when he slept. He smiled and laughed at his Besty.

When I talked to her after she returned to Colorado, she said she couldn't believe what a great big hole it felt like she had in her heart without Raine. I felt the same way with her gone. As I told her, it was so very good for my soul to have my friend here with me for a few days. I cherished it. For more photos of our time together, visit my Flickr album.

What a beautiful friend! And you can definitely tell that Raine fell head over heels for her. I hope she's able to come visit soon, or that you guys can get there! He's going to change so quickly (but I know I don't have to tell you that). I'm glad you had such a lovely time together, childhood friends are the best!!!

Hi Leah! What a great story, and I love the pictures! Sarah and Raine look so happy together. It was so nice to know you all had that special time together. You and Sarah have enjoyed a friendship like sisters, and I can still see you playing together as little girls. Hope you have many more visits together on the horizon.
